Mayor Whitmire & Houston Leaders: "You've Been Through This Before"

For the second day in a row, Houston Mayor John Whitmire was joined by local leaders in Kingwood to address the flooding in the area.

"It's communication" Whitmire said, "And I'm communicating through the press with Houstonians to be on alert, certainly the Kingwood area. You've been through this before. It's unfortunate, but we know what we have to do."

The biggest thing that needs to be done for those east of the San Jacinto River, is to evacuate.

"The East Fork of the San Jacinto River is going to peak before midnight tonight" said Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, "People that are west of 2100 on the San Jacinto River need to get out now."

The key is to get out now, before it's too late.

"We've got resources set up, shelters set up, and a way to get people away from harms way right now" Ramsey said, "But now is the time to get off the river and evacuate."

The West Fork of the San Jacinto is set to peak tomorrow afternoon from 3pm - 5pm.

"Be alert, evacuate if at all possible" Mayor Whitmire added, "Go to safety, do not wait until it's too late and then you endanger our first responders."
